AN ALTERNATIVE TO ADD COLORS AND SPARKS TO HIGH-TECH EQUIPMENT

Challenge

The original design for this high-tech equipment showed two blue inlays and the process that was used to apply the color was expensive and time-consuming. In this specific case, the challenge was to develop a cost-effective solution that would match the desired color and that would fit perfectly in the two small inlays.

Solution

After looking at different options, we opted for a domed decal on a polycarbonate material. In order to match the color they had, we used a textured polycarbonate in order to create more of a matte finish. Not only did the polycarbonate worked well to recreate the specified color, but this substrate is ideal when it comes to precise cutting, which is great because no expensive tooling is required.
